Physical Geography
Puerto Rico is 110 by 35 miles in size (161 km. x 55 km) and is the farthest east of the four major islands that form the Greater Antilles. The island is located 1,597 miles south of New York, 3,965 south-west of Madrid, and 550 miles north of Caracas, Venezuela. It is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean to the north and the Caribbean Sea to the south. Three islands are situated off the coast of Puerto Rico: the municipalities of Vieques and Culebra (Dewey) to the east, and Mona Island to the west. By air, Puerto Rico is two and a half hours south-east of Miami, three and a half hours from New York, four and a half hours from Chicago and seven and a half hours from Los Angeles, California.

In 1898, the Spanish government ceded Puerto Rico to the United States as a result of a treaty to end the Spanish-American War. Consequently, the Puerto Rican people became U.S. citizens enabling them to travel and live in the United States and those on the mainland to do the same on the island.

While living in the Iron City, she taught at various universities. It was much later in her career that she decided to collaborate with photojournalistic articles which were published in international publications, at one time being correspondent for the newspaper El Mundo of Puerto Rico. Apart from her profesional career, Jacqueline promotes activities oriented towards world peace and social justice. Our editor is resolute in her ideas that TOURISM is a way and an economic means, a vehicle of the New Millennium, a reuniting principle for people in her own country as well as for people around the world. She firmly believes that TOURISM is also simultaneously a formidable crossover factor for countries of different cultures beyond political boundaries

Recóndito is published since 1987, edited and supervised by  Jacqueline Cordova-Ferrer. Raised in a journalistic background, provided our editor the enthusiasm to start RECONDITO magazine, and to establish a company dedicated to advertising, photojournalism, and to promote the tourism of Puerto Rico.
